Central Contra Costa Sanitary District Fleet Electrification Strategic Plan

Central San provides wastewater collection, treatment and disposal services; recycled water production and distribution; and household hazardous waste collection for Contra Costa County in California. Central San serves a population of nearly 500,000 residents and more than 3,000 businesses within their 157-square-mile service area, which includes Alamo, Danville, Lafayette, Moraga, Orinda, Pacheco, Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek; portions of Martinez and San Ramon; and unincorporated communities within the central County area.

Starting in 2022, Optony is working with Central San staff to plan the agency’s fleet transition from gas-powered (internal combustion engine) vehicles to zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs). Optony is providing fleet electrification planning and charging needs assessment results. In addition, Optony is providing Central San with hydrogen fuel cell vehicle assessments to determine the feasibility of FCEVs in the fleet, charging management software option assessments and information, and detailed analysis of funding opportunities in the form of state and federal incentives and rebates.
